General Questions

Cart2Cart migrates Summer Cart customer accounts, but does not migrate usable login passwords for Summer Cart. After migration to another platform, customers must use “Forgot password” (or an invite/reset flow) on the target store.

Summer Cart password migration (current)

1. Summer Cart stores customer and admin passwords as one-way salted hashes (Summer Cart documents a salted HMAC-SHA1 approach). Hashes cannot be reversed to the original password.

2. Cart2Cart’s free Migrate customers’ passwords option applies only to selected cart pairs that share compatible hashing (and often require a Cart2Cart password plugin on Magento, WooCommerce, PrestaShop, OpenCart, or thirty bees). Summer Cart is not in that supported set.

3. Plan a customer communication: announce the storefront change and include reset-password instructions before go-live.

4. Optional: send a post-migration welcome email with a password-reset link, and/or offer a small first-login discount to encourage reactivation.

Earlier general explanation (legacy)

Password hashing is one-way. Different shopping carts use different salts and algorithms, so a hash from Summer Cart generally cannot authenticate a customer on another platform. Cart2Cart can move customer records; customers then create a new password on the target store.
