If nested categories look flattened or extra root categories appear on BigCommerce after migration, the source tree was almost certainly deeper than BigCommerce allows.

Why the tree changes

Cart2Cart recreates categories on BigCommerce within that platform’s rules. It cannot keep a ninth (or deeper) nesting level. Categories beyond the allowed depth are attached as root categories so products still import instead of failing the data migration.

BigCommerce depth limit

BigCommerce allows a maximum category depth of 8 levels. Count from the top-level catalog folder down. If the source cart (Magento, PrestaShop, WooCommerce, and others) used 9+ levels, those extra levels cannot stay nested on BigCommerce.

What to do before or after migration
