General Questions

Why Cart2Cart may need an access to my web shop or server?

In order to investigate issues or troubleshoot reported problems, Cart2Cart support technicians may require access to your online store, web server, and database to facilitate seamless data migration.

We understand that providing such access information is sensitive and should be treated with the utmost respect, acknowledging it as confidential commercial data. Therefore, we only request access to your online store when absolutely necessary for resolving your data migration issues.

We have implemented robust security measures to protect the access information stored within our systems. However, we also recommend that our customers take additional precautions before sharing their credentials.

Whenever access to your online store is required, we will clearly communicate the specific access needed and the reason behind the request.

Summary of Cart2Cart Access Protocols

  1. When granting a technician access to your online store, it is strongly advised to temporarily change the password of the administrator account to a strong, randomly generated password while the issue is being investigated.
  2. After your problem has been resolved, promptly change the passwords of all accounts that were provided to us.
  3. In all cases requiring access to your online store, our technician will clearly specify the access level needed and the reason for it.

Granting Access to Your Online Store for Data Migration Support

Depending on the task at hand, a Cart2Cart technician may need access to your online store. We highly recommend changing the passwords for Admin/FTP/SSH accounts provided to Cart2Cart support to strong, temporary passwords, granting only the essential permissions needed to resolve the issue and facilitate data migration.

  1. Change the existing password of the user/staff account to a random and complex password.
  2. Ensure that you change all provided passwords immediately after your issue is resolved.

Providing Access to Your Administrator Account for Data Migration

In many cases, access to an administrator account on your online store is necessary for data migration. Follow the steps outlined in the Granting Access to Your Online Store section of this article.

Providing Access to an FTP or SSH Account for Data Migration

To effectively diagnose and resolve issues, the Cart2Cart Support Team might require access to the files of your online store installation using FTP or SSH. Refer to the steps outlined in the Granting Access to Your Online Store section of this article.

Ensure that this account is a user-level account with access restricted to the directory where your online store is installed, unless our technician specifically requests unrestricted access (see below).

Understanding 'Root' (Unrestricted Access) to Your Server for Data Migration

If a technician requests 'root access' to your server (an account with unrestricted permissions), please understand that this is only requested in exceptional circumstances. We only require such access when it is absolutely essential to diagnose and resolve your problem, such as generating or monitoring server logs or making server configuration changes related to data migration.

When providing root/unrestricted access to your server, it is imperative to follow the temporary account creation steps described in the Granting Access to Your Online Store section of this article.

Firewalls and IP-Based Authentication during Data Migration

If your systems utilize IP address authentication (e.g., a firewall), please inform us, and we will provide you with a list of our office IP addresses to whitelist, ensuring seamless data migration.
