General Questions

On Shopify, the order subtotal and order total are calculated by Shopify, not stored as a frozen number from the source cart. After a data migration, a difference of a few cents is common—especially on orders with many line items—because tax, discount, and shipping math differs between platforms.

Why totals can differ

Source carts may store a final total, apply tax inclusive vs exclusive prices, or round per line. Shopify recalculates from line items, tax settings, discounts, and shipping. Small rounding gaps add up on large orders. A few cents is typically the platforms disagreeing on rounding, not missing products.

What Cart2Cart copies

Cart2Cart transfers the order records (customers, line items, amounts as provided by the source). Shopify then applies its own total calculation. Aligning tax, discounts, and shipping on the target store is a Shopify admin task after import.

What to check in Shopify

If the gap is more than a few cents, compare these settings with the source store:

  • Tax settings — rates, inclusive vs exclusive, and regions.
  • Discount codes — codes exist and apply the same way.
  • Shipping — rates and methods match the old checkout.
  • Currency conversion — rates are current if you migrated across currencies.
