Can Cart2Cart create redirects to my new products and categories after migration to Magento?

Yes, our service creates redirects to the new products and categories after migrations to and from Magento shopping cart. In order to proceed with them, merchants will have to select an additional option “Create the 301 redirects on your target store after migration” during the entities selection step on Migration Wizard.

Beware of such pecularities:

1. Magento doesn't allow trailing slashes in its URLs, so they will be trimmed after migration. For example, if your URL lookes like this: www.myoldstore.com/electronics/ipod-nano/, it’ll look like this when the migraiton is finished - www.mynewstore.com/electronics/ipod-nano

2. Magento adds “index.php” to its URLs, by default. To prevent this do the following:

  • Log in to Magento
  • Step to System->Configuration
  • Click on Web in the General section
  • Under Search Engine Optimisation, set Use Web Server Rewrites to Yes, under Secure set Use Secure URLs in Frontend to Yes too. Then, click Save config.
  • Create an .htaccess file in Magento root directory and put the this code in it:
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>
    If your Magento store is in the subdirectory - use this code:
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /shop/
    RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /shop/index.php [L]
    </IfModule>
  • Save the changes.

3. To activate redirects after the transfer to Magento, you’ll have to perform data reindex.
