The Cart2Cart team maintained strong momentum this week, successfully executing complex migrations and tackling sophisticated customization requests that highlight the platform differences between major ecosystems. Our primary focus remains on ensuring data integrity, especially during high-volume transfers and when migrating specialized entity types.

Migration Momentum: High Volumes and Key Routes

This week saw nearly 50 successful migration processes completed or delivered as full demos. The flow of merchants moving platforms remains robust, with several key pairings dominating the landscape. While our primary route of WooCommerce to Shopify continued its expected high volume, we also observed significant activity in reverse migrations and large-scale platform shifts.

Key achievements in migration execution:

  • High-Volume Completion: We successfully completed a massive migration process involving approximately 83,900 entities moving from Shopify to a Wix target platform, proving our capability in handling large reverse transfers like Shopify to Wix.
  • Enterprise Scale Transfers: Handled several multi-thousand entity Magento to WooCommerce projects, including one transfer exceeding 15,400 entities, navigating complex database structures effectively.
  • Security Mitigation: Several full migrations required overcoming source server security obstacles (like cURL errors, 403 access denials, and script execution blocks) by strategically switching to API methods or adjusting bridge placements to ensure data transfer could proceed without compromising security settings.

Navigating the Trenches: Customizations and Reporting Insights

Our technical team resolved several advanced issues this week, focusing on highly customized data mapping and critical client education regarding platform reporting differences.

Data Transformation and Custom Fields

We saw complex requirements around product data structure, requiring deep dives into customizations:

  • ACF Mapping: For an OpenMage migration, a client requested highly specific custom attributes to be mapped directly into WooCommerce Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) instead of standard attributes, requiring an estimated 4-6 hours of specialized development time to execute the precise field-to-field linking.
  • SunShop Review Migration: Successfully implemented a custom solution to extract and migrate product reviews from the less common SunShop platform to WooCommerce, requiring investigation into the source database's structure (specifically the products_reviews table) and overcoming challenging server security restrictions using database dumps.

Clarifying Platform Differences in Reporting

One critical client request involved reports appearing incorrect post-migration, particularly regarding historical sales data in Shopify reports showing products associated with 'none' titles.

  • Reporting vs. Data Integrity: We clarified that the issue was not with the migrated data itself, but rather with the inherent differences in reporting algorithms between WooCommerce and Shopify. The underlying orders and products were correctly migrated, but the presentation of historical sales within Shopify's reporting dashboard reflects its own proprietary calculation methods.
